yum! [16 Dec 2006|11:54am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

Hello friendlings!

1. It is soon to be Christmas. (Or your seasonal holiday of choice.)

2. I have a really nice new dress that I haven't gotten to wear.

3. I am going to Ireland.

4. Cameron's birthday! And Kathryn's birthday! And Tom's (really late) birthday! And if we want to stretch it a little, Steph's too! (Sorry Bov.)

5. These are things to celebrate.

I propose that we celebrate them in fancy dress (!) some time before Christmas. Like the 21st, if everybody's back by then. We can eat out (Frank's? Azteca? Victoria's? Oh all the delicious choices) or get take-out, and probably A CAKE to eat with spoons and forks (at my house? at someone else's?)

If you would be interested in partaking in cake/food/fancy dress/excellent company some time before the 29th, comment! and let me know about dates, ideas...etc. Yay.

Wow...the last time someone posted in this was to talk about Europe. That seems like such a long (six weeks) time ago...oh, how school makes time disappear.

Anyway. What's the New Years plan? Is there one? Can there be one? I feel like last year pretty much rocked, and as long as we all keep the majority of our clothes on this year, I'm completely up for it again. I do have a dentist's appointment on the 2nd at 10 am 'cause I failed to inform my dad that those few days were untouchable, but I can work around things.

While I'm talking about Winter Break, I believe that a friend from here may be coming out to spend part of the break in Wisconsin. For some reason, she wants to meet all the folks I keep talking about. She may or may not be here over New Years - we're not sure yet.

Um...should I bring a slightly better-than-normal shirt along? Just in case? Or should I just fuck it?

los monies, again [24 Jul 2006|04:39pm]

We should figure out how much everyone owes, and to whom.

TO THE HOUSING ACCOUNT (which means write the check to me, because the account is, well, mine)
Amanda: $130 (on behalf of The Bov)
Steph: $440
Cam: $600 ($440 plus $160 on behalf of the Bov, right?)
Bov: $100

TO AMANDA (for round-trip Manchester-London transpo)
Steph, Cam, and Bov: $37 each
(And, I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but if you could do this and the housing $$ as different checks, it would make my life way easier)

TO CAM (for London-Paris flight--anything else?)
Steph and Amanda: $60 each

TO BOV (for rail tickets)
Steph and Cam: $130

Does this sound right?

this is my official apology for my lack of communication recently. i've been at north from 8 am to 10 pm or later every day for the last week and a half, save like two lunch breaks total. so. we should go over what we are sharing and who is bringing what. i will start the list of things to share;
alarm clock type thing
small first aid/sewing kit?
camera (i know we all will want pictures, but instead of taking 4 of the same picture, we can share maybe?)
phone card
laundry detergent of some kind
...that's all i got for now. i'm not really solid on any of these, but it's a start.
also can whoever has the information post/send what trains we are taking and where we are staying when? i suppose flight stuff would be good too. also #2, everyone should have extra passport photos with them and copies of their passport to bring with us, just in case. and also #3, when is everyone getting back to appleton? i'm not sure exactly when i'll be available this weekend, but for sure not sunday (unless it's early in the morning) so if we need to do stuff all together it needs to be friday or saturday morning. and you should all come see hamlet because it will be good...i think....

I just saw a terribly compelling reason for us not to go to Dresden: Mark Stoltz is living there right now!

Ok, so I fucked up. I thought easyjet was charging me in euros, but they actually charged me in pounds sterling. This means that you each owe me about $45. Actually it means you owe me about $60, but this is me swallowing some of my own idiocy. :-)

Who knew the British were doing so well?

Continuing with the "purchased" thing [16 Jul 2006|12:34am]

We now have all the train tickets to our major destinations, and they're getting shipped to my place in Appleton. Price, as quoted before, was $152 per person, plus a bit more for me 'cause of the side trip. They'll be there in about a week.

ok everyone, we all have plane tickets from London Luton to Paris. The total was 130.91 euro ($165.63).

Once all of this stuff has been purchased today we should be all set to go and we should, all together now, figure out how much everybody owes to the housing account as that would be a good place to settle our debts to.

Trains [15 Jul 2006|02:28am]

Hello folks,

I've done some looking into train stuff on raileurope.com, which is the only place I've found that I can get train reservations in English. If I'm missing something, please let me know.

1100, 1200, 1300 are times you can leave. All reservations prices are $11.

LYON TO FLORENCE - 8/7 - 8/8
1717, 1723, 1845 are when we leave, and reservations cost $39.

0829, 1039 are when we leave, reservations are $24

VENICE TO MUNICH - 8/13 - 8/14
2044, transfer at 0410, reservation is either $43 or $58, depending on whether we want a couchette or a sleeper berth for the second leg of the trip.

2240, reservation is $17 for a reclining seat, $35 for a couchette, and $70 for a sleeper berth.

Them's all the tickets. NOW THEN. Here's what I see happening.

Paris to Lyon, you wanted to leave in the afternoon. I bet there are trains on the hour to there, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Lyon to Florence, we want the 1845 train. It gives us enough time to get our next stop, and it's cheapest. Second train is a couchette, which is fantastic.

Florence to Venice, I say we get the 0829 train. It doesn't affect the price, but I like early.

Venice to Munich, we want the cheaper fare. Why? Because the second leg of the trip is only two hours long, and a sleeper for two hours isn't worth the extra money to me.

Munich to Amsterdam, I say we spring for the couchette. It's an overnight train, and we'll want to sleep. Plus, it's more secure for baggage, and we all get to be in the same room. Sleeper berth is only three people.

In summary, that comes to:

Finally, there's a free shipping offer, but it's only a $15 dollar difference, and I don't care enough to put orders together on one credit card.

If I can get confirmation from you guys, I say we buy everything ASAP. So if I call you Saturday and ask you to check LJ, don't be surprised.

ok, well amanda and steph seem to have stopped their planning... or responding to anything, so...

easyjet says we can fly london to paris on august 1st at 19:30 for 26.49 euro a piece... does that sound good to everybody? if it does please actually respond to this and I'll go ahead and reserve all 4 tickets so that we can avoid having to pay the service fee each time.

ok, now that that is hopefully taken care of we should probably discuss reserving train tickets since we don't actually have any yet.

ok? good! great! excellent! let's go everybody!

According to DHL mine and Bov's eurailpasses were delivered to amanda's yesterday morning. Amanda, can you confirm that?

eurailpass story [11 Jul 2006|11:51am]

Ok, so I emailed eurail this morning to find out about my shipping tracking numbers that they never sent me and apparently they haven't even been mailed yet. Once again the curse of living with a PO Box rears its ugly head. I gave them Amanda's address, so, Bov, our eurailpasses are on their way there. They can safely wait there alongside my ISIC.

Can you keep an eye out for those Amanda? Hopefully they'll get there this week.

Hmmm... the ball seems to have stopped rolling on this little project of ours. Anybody have any questions? Perhaps about various train tickets and things while we're in Europe. I feel like we still have a lot to figure out before we leave and we leave in less than three weeks.

Additionally, Amanda and I were discussing making some sort of a list of specific sights we'd like to see in each city/country. I heard this rumour somewhere that we're all a little indecisive and it might help us out a bit to make ourselves a guide of some kind. I'm not talking an hour-by-hour itinerary, just a rough list of things we'd like to try and do and see so we're not just wandering around aimlessly all the time.
